Andrea King Collier, Health Power Health Editor;
Journalist; Food and Society Policy Fellow, W. K. Kellogg Foundation; Lead author, award winning book, Black Woman's Guide to Black Men's Health. She has been writing and speaking about health and health policy issues for the past 20 years. Her work has appeared in the Washington Post and New York Times, and her work appears regularly in Essence, Woman’s Day, O – the Oprah magazine, the National Medical Association Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, AARP Magazine, and other media. In addition, she has written about health policy as it affects communities of color in 'white papers' for foundations such as the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Her work and experiences have made her an in-demand national speaker on health and health disparities.
Ms. King Collier is a board member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. She is a graduate of Indiana University with degrees in Journalism and Political Science, and a former medical journalism fellow through the National Press Foundation at the National Cancer Institute. Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine; past Assistant Professor at Yale University School of Medicine. A certified obstetrician/gynecologist, her focus is Women’s Health, especially empowerment of women and families through health information and education.
A member of the board of trustees of the National Medical Association, she is Chairperson of its Public Affairs Committee and a member of its Council on Concerns of Women Physicians. She has an interest in media and related experience includes: featured columnist, Ask Dr. Natalie for Lifetime Magazine, which reached over seven million readers, and being featured in Prevention and Essence magazines... She lectures on consumer-oriented issues such as intimate partner violence, wellness and fitness and health disparities.
Dr. Achong earned her M.D. degree from New York University School of Medicine, and did her specialty training at Yale University School of Medicine. She has received numerous awards.

Billie Wright Adams, M.D., Editor, Health Power Infant and Child Health Channel, and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
Coordinator, University of Illinois at Chicago's M-3 Clerkship in Pediatrics since 1980. Dr, Adams is former Project Director of a federal Training Grant for Primary Care Pediatrics. Additional prior positions include Acting Bureau Chief, Chicago Department of Health's Bureau of Community and Comprehensive Personal Health.

Sharon Allison-Ottey, M.D., Editor, Health Power Aging Health Channel and Member of its Professional Advisory Council.
Internal Medicine and Geriatrics trained, she is Director of Health Education and Community Initiatives at the COSHAR Foundation. as the. She has been named Investigator of the Year by the American Geriatric Society for pioneering work on AIDS in the elderly. Her current research involves Health Literacy, Spirituality and Direct to Consumer Advertising.
Dr. Allison-Ottey has taken health education to the airwaves with radio broadcasts and numerous other venues including print media, television, workshops, conferences and lectures. She serves on several boards including Partnership for Clear Health Communication. She previously served on the Board of Trustees of the National Medical Association and in a variety of other leadership roles including being a member of the Minority Affairs Consortium of the American Medical Association. She earned dual Bachelor's degrees from North Carolina Central University, and her MD degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine.

Karen L. Bell, M.D., MAAN, Editor, Health Power Aging Health Channel and member of its Professional Advisory Council
An Associate Clinical Professor of Neurology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, in the G.H. Sergievsky Center and the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain. She is also an Associate Attending Physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr Bell is Director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Trials Group at Columbia University, and has research interests in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. She is former Director of the Minority Recruitment Core for the National Institute of Aging-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study, and is interested in achieving ethnic diversity in enrollment in Alzheimer’s disease clinical trials on a national level. She also leads the Education Core of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Columbia University, has developed physician and community education programs, and is a member of the National Medical Association and American Academy of Neurology.
Dr. Bell completed her undergraduate studies at New York University, earned her M.D. degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, served her internship at Harlem Hospital Center, and completed a Neurology residency and fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at The Neurological Institute at Columbia University.

Valentine J. Burroughs, MD, Editor, Health Power Men's Health Channel and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
A Board certified endocrinologist and internist; Associate Medical Director, and Chairman of Medicine at North General Hospital (NYC); Medical Director, Health Care New York IPA; and Chair of the Health Policy Committee, National Medical Association (NMA) Board of Trustees.
Past leadership positions held include President and CEO, New York County Medical Society (affiliate of the American Medical Association), President of both Manhattan Central Medical Society, and Empire State Medical Association (both NMA affiliates). Dr. Burroughs earned his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Michigan.

Clive O. Callender, M.D., F.A.C.S. is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Howard University college of Medicine, and Founder and Director of National Minority Organ and Tissue Transplantation Education Program (MOTTEP). Dr. Callender is also a Health Power Editor and member of its Professional Advisory Council.
On August 8, 1991, the New England Journal of Medicine, the nation’s premier journal for medical professionals, chronicled the 10-year experience of the first National Organ/Tissue Donor Program in the United States. It was organized by Howard university Hospital, the National Kidney Foundation/National Capital Area, and the DOW Chemical Company. This collaboration led to the conceptualization and development of MOTTEP.
MOTTEP is the first national donor related organization to identify a two-fold solution to donor shortage: (1) increasing the number of minority donors, and decreasing the number of persons who need transplants through a health promotion campaign aimed at preventing the need for transplantation. There are now 16 MOTTEP affiliates in cities throughout the United States, and one in the Virgin Islands.
Dr. Callender earned his M.D. degree from Meharry Medical College (top ranking medical student), completed his residency at Freedmen’s Hospital, received his kidney transplant training at the University of Minnesota, and his liver transplant training transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh.

Cordelia Clapp, RN, BSN, Public Health Nurse and Diabetic Coordinator of the Kaw Nation, is an Editor of the Health Power Native American/American Indian Channel.
Ms. Clapp is also:
- a national spokeswoman for the American Heart Association (AHA), National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and WomenHeart, a national coalition for women with heart disease based in Washington, DC.;
- a presenter of Native American Sign Language for Our Lord's Prayer and God Bless America;
- a recipient of the AHA Louis B. Russell, Jr. Memorial Award, which is presented for outstanding and effective service to minority and underserved communities.
Ms. Clapp was the opening presenter, by invitation, at the 2006 American Indian/Alaska Native Heritage Month event in Washington, D.C.

Alwyn T. Cohall, M.D., FAAP, Editor, Health Power Teen and Parent Channels, and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
Board certified in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Dr. Cohall is Associate Professor of Clinical Public Health and Clinical Pediatrics at Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons; and Director, Harlem Health
Promotion Center.
Prior positions include Consulting Physician at: Presbyterian Hospital, The Floating Hospital, and the Children's AID Society. Dr. Cohall has published extensively including a book, and chapters in five books. She has been involved in International Health projects in Asia, Central and South America, Europe and Africa. A former White House Fellow, Dr. Diaz was named one of New York Magazine's Best Doctors in New York in 2000 and 2002, and in 2001 she received the American Academy of Pediatrics Founders of Adolescent Health Award.

Aida Luz Maisonet Giachello, Ph.D., Health Power Advisor, and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
Is also Associate Professor, Jane Addams College of Social Work, and Founder and Executive Director, Midwest Latino Health Research, Training and Policy Center, both at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research focus is on efficiency and quality of care.
With CDC support, the Center has developed diabetes curricula for community lay health workers (health promoters), and health providers, conducted training across the nation, in Mexico, and Puerto Rico sponsored by the U.S HRSA, CDC, National Center for Farmworkers Health, and Pan American Health Organization, among others. Through a CDC REACH 2010 grant, the center is reducing diabetes disparities among African Americans and Latinos in seven Chicago communities. Dr. Giachello is also Co-PI of Redes En Acción Cancer Network, a National Cancer Institute funded project of Baylor College of Medicine.
Born in Puerto Rico. Dr. Giachello earned a bachelor's degree in Social Science from the University of Puerto Rico; a Masters' degree in Social Services Administration (SSA) from the University of Chicago; and, a Ph.D. in Medical Sociology from the University of Chicago (Health and Ethnicity).

Danielle Glenn-Rivera (Osage/Cherokee), Editor, Health Power Native American Channel and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
Health advocate for American Indians and a cultural awareness trainer in the Los Angeles area. A former counselor at the Indian Center, Inc, Domestic Violence Shelter, she supervised the Southern California Indian Center (SCC) North Hollywood site. In 1990, as SCC Program Coordinator, she established its Tobacco Control Program.
Prior positions include Community Education Specialist, Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) Tobacco Control Program; Chair, California DHS Tobacco Education Network Board; Co-Chair, California Office of AIDS Multicultural Liaison Board.
She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma, has completed graduate courses in Movement Therapy at UCLA, and is a certified Specialist in Chemical Dependency, HIV/AIDS and Diabetes.

Yvonne J. Graham, R.N., M.P.H., Editor, Health Power Caribbean Channel and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
A pioneer in public health, Ms. Graham founded, and was Executive Director of the Caribbean Women's Health Association (CWHA) from 1982 to 2001. CWHA provides comprehensive, culturally sensitive health care, immigration and social support services to a diverse clientele of more than 30,000.
In the capacity of Deputy Borough President of Brooklyn, a position assumed in 2001, Ms. Graham oversees health care policy, and is the Borough President's primary representative and key advisor on health care, immigration and general welfare issues. A Registered Nurse, she earned her baccalaureate degree from St. Joseph's College (NYC).

Monair J. Hamilton,MPH, PhD, CHES, Editor of the Health Power Preventive Health Channel, and a member of Health Power's Professional Advisory Council.
She is also Assistant Professor of Health Promotion, Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, Coastal Carolina University, Conway, S.C. Prior to assuming her current position Dr. Hamilton was a Doctoral Teaching Fellow in the Health Education and Promotion Program, Kent State University (Ohio). Other positions held include Lecturer, Department of Health and Physical Education, York College, City University of New York (CUNY).
Dr. Hamilton’s academic focus is on health disparities and cardiovascular health among African-American women, which expertise led to consecutive invitational speaking engagements on cardiovascular health and cultural competence from the American Heart Association. She is a member of the Ethnic/Racial Minority Committee, American School Health Association; and Editorial Board for News and Views of the Society of Public Health Education (SOPHE).

Brenda Lee Huerta is an Editor of the Health Power Hispanic/Latino Channel, and a member of Health Power's Professional Advisory Council.
A native Texan from the Lubbock area, her background is in media and politics, beginning with radio at the age of 5 and television and politics in her teens. Ms. Huerta has continued her ties to television, radio, and the print media throughout her life, even when she worked in government in different capacities, including work with a U.S. Senator, a Texas Governor and the Texas Legislature.
Huerta is the News/Community Relations Director and Univision.com Site Manager with Univision Radio. She is based in the Río Grande Valley. The Associated Press, AP Managing Editors, The Dallas Press Club, Texas Association of Broadcasters, National Association of Broadcasters, federal and state officials, and numerous non-profit organizations have honored Brenda for her on- and off-air work within the community. She serves on numerous local, state and national boards and commissions, as an officer and in an advisory capacity.
Her schedule allows for 4 hours of sleep each night - but, any chance she gets, she golfs, does ceramics, quilts or simply reads a good book, oh, yes and sleeps.

Robert L. Johnson, M.D., FAAP, Member, Health Power Professional Advisory Council
Professor and Chair of Pediatrics; Professor of Psychiatry; and Director, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, New Jersey Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His research focuses on adolescent physical and mental health, adolescent violence, adolescent fatherhood and risk prevention/reduction programs emphasizing substance and alcohol abuse, sexuality and sexual dysfunction.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Medicine, he serves on The Board of Health Care Services, and the Board of Law and Justice of the National Academy of Sciences. He has lectured and published widely including two books, The Race Trap, and Strength for Their Journey.

From 1990 to 1995 Mr. Kirby worked in the New York City Health Department as a Community Liaison Worker and Public Information Specialist. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from the University of the West Indies, and an Advance Degree in Journalism from the International Institute for Journalism in Berlin.

B. Waine Kong, Ph.D., J.D., Editor and Advisor, Health Power Spiritual Health Channel and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
Executive Vice President of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean, and President of its foundation. Former Chief Executive Officer, Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC), an educational psychologist, and an attorney. Through an NIH grant, he pioneered the organization of churches and barber shops as high blood pressure control centers. He received wide recognition for this work. Dr. Kong has published widely, and has made presentations in Egypt, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Soviet Union, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Kenya and Israel.
He earned his Ph.D. degree from Walden University, his M.A. degree from American University, and his J.D. degree from Dickinson School of Law.

Erme C. Maula, R.N., MSN, Co-Editor of Health Power Asian-Pacific Islander Channel
Advance Practice Community Health Nurse; Consultant to the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, coordinating HIV/AIDS programs and ensuring that people have access to culturally and linguistically appropriate health care. Her background also includes maternal and child care, women's health, and community health.
An active advocate for the visibility of Asian and Pacific Islander communities, Ms. Maula is Chair of both the East Coast Asian AIDS Network, and the Asian and Pacific Islander Women's HIV/AIDS National Network. Ms. Maula is also a doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

Chief, Division of Geriatrics, Long Island College of Medicine Department of Medicine, and Clinical Assistant Professor, College of Medicine at State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Prior professional positions held include Medical Director, Ambulatory Care, Gouverneur Diagnostic and Treatment Center. Wendell A. Moore, is a Health Power Advisor on Teen Issues and a Member of its Professional Advisory Council.
He is also Director of HIV Prevention Education at Safe Space, Inc., a 300 staff New York City non-profit organization providing services to teenagers, and Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Our Voices, Safe Space’s risk reducing newsletter. In addition, he is the organization’s Artistic Director of its Arts Academy. Other positions held at Safe Space were Director of Education and HOPE Program Coordinator.
Mr. Moore’s current consultancies include Life Skills Trainer of the National Football League (NFL) and Youth Speak Out Conference Moderator of Hunter College, City University of New York. He also has broad expertise in the computer field as well as in video-production, curriculum development, and creative write.

Javette C. Orgain, M.D., Editor, Health Power African-American Channel and a member of its Professional Advisory Council
Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine; Chair, African-American Health Care Council in Chicago; Co-Chair, Illinois State Board of Health; and Board member, Illinois Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Orgain was the 100th President of the National Medical Association (NMA). She has had extensive International Health experience including in China, South America, East, West and Southern Africa, the Caribbean, France, Cuba, and Laos. She is Founder and Executive Director, Family Health Project, Inc. Elena Rios, M.D., Editor, Health Power Hispanic/Latino Channel and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
President & CEO, National Hispanic Medical Association; also CEO, Hispanic-serving Health Professions Schools, Inc, both committed to improving the health care of Hispanics. She also serves on the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, Board of the Partnership for Prevention; and as Co- Chair of the Hispanic Health Coalition.
Dr. Rios earned undergraduate degrees and an MS degree from Stanford University and UCLA School of Public Health, and her M.D. degree from UCLA School of Medicine. She then served an NIH fellowship focusing on access to care for minorities, and management skills among family practice physicians.

Martha Sanchez is an Editor of the Health Power Hispanic/Latino Channel and a member of its Professional Advisory Council.
She is also Program Director for the Northern Manhattan Start Right Coalition, Heilbrunn Center for Population and Family Health of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. In this capacity, she oversees a major U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded Reach 2010 Program. Prior positions held by her include Program Manager of the Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership, a Central Harlem Healthy Start Project; Assistant Project Director of the National Development and Research Institute, (NDRI); and Research Coordinator for AIDS Programs of the New York City Department of Health. Ms. Sanchez, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, earned her BA degree in Psychology from Lehman College, the City University of New York, and her MA degree in Health Education from Teacher's College, Columbia University.

Denese O. Shervington, M.D., FAPA, Editor, Health Power Mental Health Channel and Member of its Professional Advisory Council
Dr. Denese Shervington is Director of Psychiatry at Harlem Hospital Center, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Prior positions include Associate Professor and Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Meharry Medical College; Regional Medical Director, New Orleans Region, Louisiana Office of Mental Health; Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Professor of Public Health, Louisiana State University Health Science Center.
From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Shervington was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Population Affairs, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, advising on domestic family planning services and population research, and directing the national Title X and XX programs. She is a veteran in Women's Health.
A graduate of New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Shervington completed her residency in Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco, is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and received her MPH in Population Studies and Family Planning from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. is Professor of Medicine, Director of Investigative Medicine and Vice Chair for Basic Research at Michigan State University. She has served on a variety of National Institutes of Health (NIH) advisory bodies, and on the editorial boards of such publications as Hypertension; Current Hypertension Reviews; American Journal of Physiology: Heart and Circulation; and the Journal of Cardiothoracic-Renal Research.
Dr. Wang's major volunteer activities for the American Heart Association include serving on its: Publication Committee; Science Advisory & Coordinating Committee; Women & Minorities Leadership Committee, as Chair; and Advocacy Coordinating Committee. In addition, Dr. Wang is President and Chairperson of the Board of the Academy of Cardiovascular Research Excellence.
